I'm Dutch, used to live in California, yet currently live on a rock on the north coast of Scotland, overlooking the Moray Firth. Researching and writing the book was a great and very rewarding project, and I've particularly enjoyed and still enjoy receiving e-mails from readers.
After taking out two years to work on the book, I've returned to my previous job as a music journalist, writing for the music press around the world. The main periodicals I write for are: Sound on Sound, Guitarist, JazzWise (UK); Mix, Electronic Musician, JazzTimes, Downbeat (US); and various magazines in Japan, Australia, Germany, Italy, France, and The Netherlands.
I'm also a guitarist and composer, specialising in the acoustic guitar. My first solo CD May The Road Rise To Meet You, was released in 1997. John McLaughlin called it "a new approach to music," remarking, "through a seemingly simple manner, and with only an acoustic guitar, Tingen is able to reveal new dimensions in music."
I'm currently preparing the recording of a second solo CD, Metamorphosis, which promises to be much more advanced and almost avant-garde. I hope to complete it and have it released later this year. Check it out on my personal site www.tingen.co.uk, where you can find examples of my writings and music (including some MP3 and wav files), and can order my first CD.
